Get More Done with Hybrid Reps

Combining exercises into supersets, tri-sets, and giant sets were among the favorite training methods of Charles R. Poliquin. These methods enable the user to get more work done in less time, so they appealed to those on a time-restricted schedule. Another method is Hybrid Reps.

The term Hybrid Reps was introduced by Sports Scientist Mel Siff, Ph.D., and Yuri Verkhoshansky, Ph.D., in Supertraining, but bodybuilders have used hybrid reps well before the publication of this sports science textbook in 1993. Personal trainer Jerry Telle also introduced numerous Hybrid Reps in a self-published book called Beyond 2001: The Next Real Step.

Hybrid Reps combine several exercises into a single set. A clean and jerk is an example of a Hybrid Rep. Examples of bodybuilding exercises using Hybrid Reps include a dumbbell military press followed immediately by a dumbbell upright row, or a barbell French press followed by a barbell reverse curl. So, get creative and come up with your own time-saving Hybrid Reps. (TSS)

BOTTOM LINE: Get in and out of the gym in a hurry with time-saving Hybrid Reps.
