Need Energy – Take BCAAs!

One performance supplement that Charles R. Poliquin couldn’t say enough good things about was Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs). The ones he thought had the most “bang for your buck” were leucine, isoleucine, and valine.

Among the benefits of BCAA supplementation the Strength Sensei promoted were decreasing bodyfat (particularly belly fat), reducing muscle catabolism by raising growth hormone and insulin levels, increasing testosterone levels following exercise, and prolonging endurance capability in hot weather. He would recommend taking BCAAs immediately before, during, and after exercise.

The Strength Sensei said mental fatigue during training could often be traced to neurotransmitter issues, specifically the conversion of the amino acid tryptophan into 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP). High levels of 5-HTP may cause you to feel drowsy. Citing studies from Japan and Sweden, the Strength Sensei says BCAAs will affect this conversion, thus increasing your energy level during workouts.

BOTTOM LINE: Take BCAAs to train stronger and longer! (TSS)
